Evoking the Soviet propaganda posters of the Cold War era, a painting of Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman to fly in space. Launching on 16 June 1963 she orbited the Earth forty-eight times over three days in the Vostok 6 spacecraft. Tereshkova is also the only woman to fly solo in space.
