Indian Chakki Coffee Table From Rajasthan. Dating from the 19th century, this table is not to be confused with the numerous inferior quality mango wood reproductions that are flooding the market.
Chakki tables are repurposed teak rice grinding mills from villages in Rajasthan or Gujarat. Originally used with quern stones for grinding wheat or other grains. There is normally a small door at the side for the flour to come out. The Hindi name for these hand operated mills is 'Chakki' or 'Chukki.' These tables have been used in The West as round coffee tables, dog beds & seats. This Chakki table is 19th century and beautifully chip carved around the edge.
